Conventions of Genre's Linked to Thrillers - Action Movies

Action Movies

Action movie conventions include:

Hero or Heroine

The Hero/Heroine archetype is a huge convention of action films. It is used to show the difference between good and bad.

In films such as Kick Ass there is a clear distinction between protagonist and antagonist. This is shown mostly by costume choice where the protagonist wears colours such as the blue and the yellow lining make him seem a lot more hero like due to the connotations the colours give. For example the blue giving connotations of power and stability and the yellow giving connotations of energy and intellect.

On the other hand the antagonist who wears mostly black and red gives harsher connotations. The black being that of power and evil and the red being rage and longing. This makes each character very different just by costume and gives each of them a different sense of power and status.

Chase Scenes/Races
Chase scenes are somewhat pivotal to action movies as a lot of the time it is the thing that is creating the action. In films such as the James Bond movies the chase scenes also show how the stunts and special effects that make the film have action. They also help the film move on whether that be time wise or if it is location.
